Unique Student Identifier

Your training records and results together. Controlled by you.

All students undertaking Nationally Recognised Training in Australia will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

A USI is like an account number, made up of letters and numbers. It will give you direct access to your USI account. Your USI account will enable access to your training records and results, through your computer, tablet, or even smartphone, anywhere, any time. You’ll also be able to see, send or print out your training records when applying for a job or further training.

Each time you enrol with a new training provider, your USI will be required so they can make sure your records and results are placed into your account. You only need one USI number for all your training – and it’s yours for life.

You are required to:

  1. If you don’t have one already, Create a Unique Student Identifier or Request us to create a USI account on your behalf.
  2. Provide us with your Unique Student Identifier.
  3. Set access controls in relation to your USI to allow the NSW Department of Education and Communities and Sydney Learning the appropriate levels of access to your USI records.

Each of these steps are outlined in further detail below.

Create your Unique Student Identifier

To create your USI, just follow these quick and easy steps:

  1. Firstly, visit the USI website and have one form of valid ID ready. This could be your drivers licence, Medicare card, passport or any other listed on the website.
  2. Once you have agreed to the terms and conditions, you’re ready to go.
  3. To start, enter some personal details, including your name, address and date of birth.
  4. Next, enter the details on your form of ID. This will make sure your account is unique to you.
  5. To finish, set up your security questions, then choose a password for your account. Once this is done, you have created your USI.

Write it down, keep it handy and keep it safe. It’s yours for life.

Request us to create a USI account on your behalf

If you do not already have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) and you want Sydney Learning to apply for a USI to the Student Identifiers Registrar on your behalf instead of using the process outlined above, you must complete this declaration.

Provide us with your Unique Student Identifier

Once you have a Unique Student Identifier, you need to provide it to us. Either include your Unique Student Identifier in the space provided on the application form (sent after you commence the application process) or send it to us here.
